What Is Polyaspartic Floor Coatings?

Polyaspartic aliphatic coatings represent the current standard in high-performance floor coatings. While epoxy remains the preferred system for primer coats and buildup layers, polyaspartic outperforms standard epoxy in every topcoat category: UV stability, abrasion resistance, cure speed, and temperature flexibility. The key advantage of polyaspartic in Alabama is UV stability. Standard epoxy yellows and chalks when exposed to sunlight — a significant problem for garages with southern exposure or spaces with skylights. Polyaspartic topcoats are aliphatic, meaning they are chemically resistant to UV degradation and will not yellow over time. Although polyaspartic cures faster than epoxy, our installations are not rushed — most jobs span 2–4 days, with the required cure time between phases and after the final topcoat.

How We Install It

Concrete Assessment

We test moisture vapor emission levels and surface pH to determine the appropriate polyaspartic system and primer combination for your specific slab.

Surface Preparation

Diamond grinding creates the mechanical profile required for the polyaspartic primer to bond properly. This step is non-negotiable for a lasting installation.

Primer / Base Coat

A polyaspartic or epoxy primer is applied, followed by any decorative broadcast layers if specified. The base system provides the color and texture.

Polyaspartic Topcoat

One or two coats of UV-stable aliphatic polyaspartic are applied as the final wear layer. Stay off the floor for at least 24 hours after the final topcoat and wait 72 hours before vehicle traffic.

Polyaspartic is an aliphatic urethane coating used primarily as a topcoat over epoxy or polyaspartic base coats. It cures faster, is significantly more UV-stable, and has higher abrasion resistance than standard epoxy. The best floor coating systems use both materials — epoxy or polyaspartic for the base, and polyaspartic as the topcoat.

Can polyaspartic be installed in the Alabama heat?

Yes — this is actually one of polyaspartic's advantages over standard epoxy. Epoxy has a very narrow application temperature range and can fail if applied when the concrete is too warm. Polyaspartic can be applied in temperatures up to 140°F, making it ideal for Alabama summer installations.

What does the lifetime coating warranty cover?

For qualifying installations, our written lifetime coating warranty covers delamination, peeling, and coating failure caused by covered material defects or our installation/workmanship. It does not cover damage from abuse, chemical spills beyond the coating system’s specified use, or structural concrete issues identified and disclosed during the estimate. The written warranty supplied with your estimate or contract controls, including maintenance requirements and the process for reporting a claim.
