Overview

What Is Industrial Floor Coatings?

Industrial floor coatings operate in some of the most demanding environments in the world — constant forklift traffic, concentrated chemical spills, temperature extremes, and hygiene requirements that a standard floor cannot meet. Selecting and installing the wrong system in an industrial environment does not just mean premature failure — it means unplanned downtime and costly re-coats. Summit Surface Company specifies industrial coating systems based on the actual demands of each facility. We evaluate chemical exposure, traffic load, regulatory requirements, existing concrete condition, and operational constraints before recommending a system. Then we install it correctly, on schedule, with minimal disruption to your operations. We serve manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, food and beverage processing, automotive service centers, and other industrial clients across Walker County, Jefferson County, and the broader North Central Alabama industrial corridor.

Benefits

Why This System?

Installation

How We Install It

01

Facility Assessment

We evaluate your specific industrial requirements: chemical exposure mapping, traffic zone identification, regulatory compliance needs, and existing substrate condition.

02

Shot Blasting / Prep

Industrial substrates often require shot blasting or scarification in addition to diamond grinding for proper profile and contamination removal.

03

Industrial System Install

High-build industrial coatings are installed in multiple lifts to achieve the specified mil thickness. Traffic zones may receive additional reinforcement.

04

Striping & Final Inspection

Safety markings, aisle striping, and equipment zone markings are applied. We conduct a final mil thickness inspection before signing off.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What floor coating is recommended for a warehouse with forklift traffic?

For high-traffic warehouse floors with forklift use, we typically specify a high-build broadcast polyurea system over a shot-blasted substrate. These systems achieve the mil thickness needed to withstand impact and point loading from fork tines and heavy pallet jacks.

Do you install USDA-accepted floor coatings?

Yes. For food and beverage processing environments that require USDA-accepted coatings, we specify systems from manufacturers whose products meet applicable regulatory standards. Contact us for food processing facility assessments.

Can you work around our production schedule?

Yes. We regularly phase industrial installations around production windows, often working evenings, weekends, or sectioning floors into zones so operations can continue during installation.

How thick should an industrial floor coating be?

General industrial environments typically specify 20–30 mils of total system thickness. Heavy-duty applications with significant point loading or chemical exposure may require 40–80 mil systems or self-leveling overlays. Exact specifications depend on your facility's requirements.

Do you serve industrial clients throughout Alabama?

Summit Surface Company primarily serves Walker County, Jefferson County, Cullman County, Tuscaloosa County, and surrounding areas. We evaluate larger industrial projects on a case-by-case basis for clients outside our standard service area.

What does the lifetime coating warranty cover?

For qualifying installations, our written lifetime coating warranty covers delamination, peeling, and coating failure caused by covered material defects or our installation/workmanship. It does not cover damage from abuse, chemical spills beyond the coating system’s specified use, or structural concrete issues identified and disclosed during the estimate. The written warranty supplied with your estimate or contract controls, including maintenance requirements and the process for reporting a claim.
